The Cosmetic Enhancement Center has various options for treating unsightly leg veins. There are different types of leg veins and treatment will vary depending on the severity of the veins.
Spider Veins or Telangiectasias affect as much as 75% of the US population. These are the smaller superficial veins that appear red, blue or purple in the skin. They can be small individual lines or look like larger ‘web’ patterns. Spider veins occur when veins near the surface of the skin leak small amounts of blood. These leaks cause the blood to disperse into the skin tissue and form discolored patterns.
Spider veins can affect both men and women and are usually a genetic condition, although prolonged standing, obesity and hormonal changes are just some of the other factors that can also contribute to their appearance.
Reticular or Feeder Veins are veins that appear blue or green in color under the skin. These are called feeder veins because they are usually the source of spider veins.
Varicose veins are enlarged, bulging veins that can cause symptoms such as pain, aching and swelling. They are produced by a condition known as venous reflux, which occurs when blood circulating through the lower limbs does not properly return to the heart and instead pools in the veins.
Sclerotherapy is a standard treatment for spider and reticular veins. It is also used in the treatment of varicose veins, but usually in combination with other treatments. The procedure involves injecting a liquid sclerosing solution directly into a vein, which causes the vein to collapse and seal shut. Compression stockings are worn for a short period after treatments to help the injected veins remain shut.
The V-Beam laser is used to ‘clean up’ any superficial spider veins that are not fed by reticular veins.
CEC primarily treats spider and reticular veins, which are considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance. However, our physicians are trained to recognize the signs that there may be underlying venous issues and will gladly refer you to the leg vein specialists at the Advanced Vein Center, which is an insurance based practice.
